11/1/2020 0 Comments Missing LolaHi! I'm Fleah!
My mom has a granddaughter whose name is Lola who is my best friend! I really miss her. We would do so many fun things like, race the waves, play in the sand, play tug of war and just cuddle. We had so much fun together because we were the best friends in the whole world- no wait, the universe! But she lives in Kirkland so I cant see her to often because of coronavirus )= . She is like a sister! She also lets me kiss her all I want! Not many people let me do that. I really miss her! I love you Lola! "This is the very first baby to be born in our coop. We think she's a girl so we named her "Sunny" and her mom is called "Mother". Those were Judy's idea. You'll hear Judy in the video.
In the summer that mother was brooding and brooding and wouldn't get out of the nesting box. So after several weeks one chick hatched. A few days later that chick fell onto the floor of the coop!! That was too bad. But the mother had another egg left in the nest and she didn't want to leave it alone...so she decided she better try to keep the baby safe and warm that was on the floor. So we, well, not me, but I watched while Judy built a really nice play house for the mom and baby to be in while the baby chick grew up enough to be safe around other juvenile chicks. And now you can see them both trying out the roosting area. It's soooooo cute! 3/14/2020 0 Comments Uncouped! We have guests here from Bellingham! I luv guests! That goes without saying. Again, pardon me for saying so but, I am the best greeter they have here. All our guests love me! I do get in trouble FROM TIME TO TIME for jumping up too much tho. Especially, the other day, when our friend Rob showed up wearing nice pants or the other time a guest arrived with white pants on. The rules should say that wearing white pants and white tennis shoes are not recommended and should be worn only if you are leaving. Also, one of these days, I probably should just stop doing it. I race around the grass because I get 100% of the attention. When nobody's looking I run thru the wet grass and muck. My dad calls it going to the perfume counter. Dogs are attracted to rolling over and over until we smell like whatever it is we are rolling in. It's nature! Yesterday was a pretty great day because the chickens were out and I got into their perfume and I am not ashamed to say it tastes pretty good too! Now, there is NOTHING better IMO but so mind boggling why my sense of smell makes most people get grossed out. One of the downsides of applying too much perfume, or the wrong perfume, is that I always get a bath. Maybe one of these days we can put a before and after photo here. Usually my parents are too annoyed and a cute photo of me is the last thing on their mind. Lately its just a half bath from my knees down because the ground is still kinda frozen. I am pretty proud of how I can walk right in the shower now without having to be picked up. Those days that I roll in chicken perfume...turns out.... its a straight shot for me into the shower with what they call a "decontamination" from the top of my head down to my toes. Those times I don't go willingly. This morning, as I do all mornings, I led our guests to the chicken house. This happy picture shows our guests with their big haul. If they knew that I liked eggs too maybe they would have offered me some. I love it when they forget to bring the red wire basket with them because more often than not, somebody drops one, it cracks open, and whoops! so sorry for them, but guess who is all over that! I hope our guests being here with us brings them calm and relaxation from their bizzy workaday. PS...hello to Davis and Lola! xo Fleah #fleah #farmstay #fun #skagitvalley #runningaround #perfumecounter #goats A Fleaopatra Story by Emilee (almost 10)
1/22/2019 0 Comments Sad day for me...![]() Our only rooster Lucky died yesterday. He was really nice to me! He never chased or pecked me, like alot of roosters do. He was a great friend to all the hens...in fact, he found food for them instead of for himself and when danger was flying above he would run for cover and all the hens would follow him! Whenever one of the hens laid an egg he would say a "cock-a-doodle-doo!!" for them. I think he was saying "good job, congrats!" He earned his name "LUCKY" because he was attacked by a dog and an owl and survived both times. Each time he lost just his tail feathers..so it was a good thing those were there... acting sorta like disposable parts of his body that he could loose and grow back which he did! You can see all his tail feathers here how handsome he was. I'm wondering if the hens are going to miss him? I will miss those morning wake up calls...even if they were earlier than before the sun came up. I hope you get to see Goldy when you get there...try to look for her. She will be super excited to see you!! Rest in peace LUCKY 2016-2019 7/16/2018 0 Comments freckles
6/27/2018 0 Comments Eagles Everywhere!Seriously, there are eagles everywhere. You should come here and stay if you like Eagles. Plus you can make sure they don't swoop me or anymore of the chickens up!!
Sincerely Fleah 5/12/2018 0 Comments Goldie...rest in peace. When we went to close the chicken's door tonite, and to everyone's alarm, Goldie wasn't there. Kriss and Dick ran off looking for her. Dick headed toward the coyote field while Kriss stayed on the property hoping for a less scarry result. Unfortunately Dick found the first feathers...and Kriss found the rest.
It's a sad day. We are amazed at how sad we are about Goldie. She was the first chicken that let us hold her. She would jump up in Kriss's lap and then on her head.. She loved Kriss and I think Kriss loved her too. The other two chickens were never as trusting and friendly as Goldie and I think that's why we miss her alot. We don't really know what happened to her but think it was either a coyote or an eagle that got her. We wish that it would have been the white chicken instead of Goldie because the white chicken wasn't friendly at all to Kriss. And now I heard them talking about maybe not having any chickens at all. They just don't think it worth it tonite but I hope they feel different in the morning. Tomorrow I know that Kriss is planning on getting the over built chicken tractor out and putting the two other chickens inside even tho they hate it...in fact they were in it a few days ago...but just paced back and forth until Kriss finally let them out. Everyone new it would be a matter of time before something got the chickens because they were free ranginging, which means, when they left the chicken house each day in the morning they would get to go anywhere they wanted, including the neighbors. One day Goldie got separated from the other two chickens and so Dave our neighbor walked her home so that nothing would get her on the way. Lucky the Rooster was their protector and I think there was some safety in numbers when they would walk around together. Well goodbye Goldie..We all miss you..We will think of you often..Sorry that had to happen to you. Love Fleah Hi
